Dental Implants have become the optimal treatment option to replace single and multiple missing teeth... permanently. Preventing facial and jaw bone deterioration through the use of implant dentistry is another where Dental Designs of White Marsh excels.
Dental implants replace the root portion of lost natural teeth and function as foundations for replacement teeth. Dental implants are small prosthetic posts anchored into the jaw bone. They are miniature titanium posts placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing.
The jawbone bonds with the posts creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. Facial structure is preserved and bone deterioration is prevented.
Dental implantations require deep experience and training and for most patients, involve two surgical procedures. Initially, implants are placed within the jawbone. During the healing period, which entails the first three to six months following surgery, the implants beneath the surface of the gums gradually bond with the jawbone.
Usually there will be a need to wear temporary dentures and maintain a soft food diet during this time. Additionally during this period, we design the final bridgework or denture, which will improve both function and appearance.
After this healing process is completed, the implant is bonded to the jawbone and the second surgery is performed. We uncover the implants and attach a small healing collar. In about two weeks, we will be able to start making your replacement teeth. An impression will be taken with posts or attachments connected to the implants. The teeth replacements are then connected to the posts or attachments. The entire procedure takes about six to eight months.
